Kauai NVC is a group of practitioners joined together to create an organized network from which to offer NVC to the community. We are committed to supporting each other in further cultivating our NVC consciousness and finding ways to most effectively make NVC accessible to the community.

Who we are

Dedicated practitioners on the island of Kauai, who teach, practice and counsel using the principles of Nonviolent Communication.

Maria Maitino

Licensed in clinical social work, Maria Maitino has worked as a therapist and child advocate, and coordinated programs supporting families in crisis and children in therapeutic foster care. Having studied NVC since 2001, she regularly teaches it to parents, caregivers, children and local schools. She is available for coaching individuals, couples and families. Most recently, she began studying and teaching Restorative Justice Circles and is excited to be offering circles to the community of Kauai.

Sharee

Sharee Anderson has been learning and practicing NVC since 2002, and has been inspired by how much her life has changed because of it. Using the transformative tools that NVC offers, she is excited about the tremendous potential for healing and peace in our world. Sharee enjoys working with people of all skill levels and is currently facilitating 2 weekly practice groups, as well as working privately with individuals, couples, small groups and organizations. She also offers somatic awareness/structural integration bodywork and yoga.

isa

An artist, mother, dancer, and drummer, isa Maria brings 20 years of Re-evaluation Co-counseling experience to her NVC practice. She trusts NVC consciousness to nurture and heal relationships, beginning with our own connection to life.

isa's classes, practice groups, and private coaching sessions provide sanctuary for personal transformation in profoundly supportive community.

Devi Ward

Devi Ward has been a practitioner of Non-Violent Communication since 2005. She has cultivated NVC consciousness by participating in regular practice groups, and attending the 2008 International Intensive training in Albequerque New Mexico. Devi is a Tantric Educator, and teaches communication for the school Tantric Arts of Love. She is an instructor of Sacred Erotic Dance and uses her skill in NVC to guide her students to greater depth and clarity in relationship to their sacred sensual selves. Devi offers NVC support in personal coaching, relationship mediation, and introductory level NVC training.

Darbi Freeman

Darbi Shakira Freeman has practiced NVC since 2004. A co-creator of the Kauai NVC and Hawaii NVC centers, she lives with commitment to transformational consciousness as a practitioner, facilitator and collaborative partner. Life mentoring with global CNVC Trainers J/J Manske and Robert Gonzales, met at 2006 International Intensive Training, contributes to the cultivation of deep awareness, trust and inspiration shared with others in her Being Compassion classes, practice groups and counseling sessions. A pioneer of composting (#1 Kauai facility, since 1989), innovative education, and a lover of the Sufi path, dance and massage for over 30 years, D S Freeman, LMT, specializes in somatic healing bodywork. Shakira offers a Being Compassion Practice Group in the Kilauea area on Saturdays at 1 pm.

rosa

Rosa Silver-Russell, (or mamaRosa of KKCR-Kauai Community Radio), is a mother or 2 young boys and has been praciticing and intensely studying NVC for 5 years. She is the host of the radio program, The Loquat Lounge, where her intention is to model the consciousness, while providing information and interviews with NVC trainers, while providing information and interviews with NVC trainers including Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, Inbal Kashtan, Jim & Jori Manske, and Kelly Bryson. She has introduced many local politicians to NVC, organized public talks, and was involved in the sociocratic formation of the Hawaii Center for Nonviolent Communication. She leads a bi-weekly practice group on the Northshore.

Marina

Marina Smerling is the founder of Bay NVC and Social Change, co-founder of the Bay NVC Connection Project, graduate of the year-long 2008 Committed NVC Practitioner Program, assistant NVC and Diversity Retreat trainer, and a student and practitioner for many years in the best playground of all, life’s daily experiences. She offers empathic listening sessions as well as relationship mediation to individuals and couples seeking to deepen a sense of connection with self as well as with their partners.
